    Losing Baby Weight

It should be the last thing on our mind after we have given birth to our baby, however often for many of us a priority it to lose some of the weight we put on whilst being pregnant. You should always put your baby first however there are some safe and sensible ways to lose weight.

Firstly breast feeding is a great way to lose weight. This encourages your body to burn calories which as we know is what is needed in order for you to lose weight. Breast feeding is also the best option for your baby so where ever possible you should breast feed. Don’t forget also that whilst you are breastfeeding you are aware of what you are putting in your body and are more likely to eat better.

Taking your baby out in their pushchair or pram is also a good way to lose weight. The adding pressure of pushing the pram along will mean that you lose more weight than if you were just walking. This will also help you keep in touch with your friends and let your baby see the world which is great for you both.

Often you will be tired when you have just had a baby so you won’t want to do vigorous exercise but even just taking your baby to a baby swim class can help. This is a great way to bond with your baby and you will burn calories whilst in the water.

Remember your priority should always be your baby however there are safe ways to lose weight and these are just a few of the methods you could try.

Fun & Free Activities To Do With Your Baby

Having a baby is an expensive time and often we are forced to cut back on our spending However this shouldn’t mean that you and your baby should go without entertainment because that will be boring and frustrating for you both.

There are lots of things that you can do with your baby that won’t cost any money. From around 12 weeks old your baby will start to respond to sounds, in particular songs. So start to sing them nursery rhymes and encourage them to clap along. You may even find a sing along group in your area.

Why not check if your local library has any events on? They often hold baby and toddle group sessions, story time and even toy sharing schemes which can help keep your baby happy.

If you have a few pounds to spend then generally babies love swimming so why not check out if your local swimming pool has a baby/toddler area.

These are just a few of the things you can do for free; remember that as your baby grows into a toddle they will begin to see the world. They will be fascinated by everything that they see, so with the right interaction even a trip to the shops can be fun & exciting. Just start by pointing out everything to them and as they start to make sounds encourage and praise them when they point at things they recognize. They will help them to learn and keep the entertained.

    You Are Not Alone

Being a mum especially for the very first time is a daunting and scary prospect. Whilst everyone has done it will tell that it comes naturally, it’s easy and you’ll learn it can seem really hard to find your way. The best advice to remember is that you are not alone. There are billions of people that have been in your shoes so not being able to cope, or needing to ask for help is nothing something that you should be ashamed of or embarrassed about.

If you have any non urgent questions then your health visitor will be happy to answer them when they give your baby a check up. If you have any concern they will be able to put your mind at ease and example the how, what and whys of many of the things you are doing.

Don’t forget that friends and relatives can also be useful. Many of your friends or family will have children and therefore have the experienced needed to answer any questions that you have. Many of them won’t like to interfere but will happily step in and help if you go to them for advice.

There are also plenty of websites and forums online that offer FAQ’s, help and advice. Your doctor or something like NHS direct will also help if you have any concerns about your baby’s health.

Motherhood is something that will come naturally, however that doesn’t mean if you are struggling that you shouldn’t ask for help, because it is much better for you and your baby if you do.

How To Host A Great Baby Shower

Although primarily baby showers were held in the United States they are becoming more popular in the UK as well. The problem is because they are so new lots of us don’t know how to host a great one. Similar to a wedding shower or hen night you should ideally pick a friend to arrange the day/night for you so that you don’t get stressed.

Remember that the event can be a small one; even hold it at home when you feel comfortable. You don’t have to invite everyone, keep it exclusively for your best friends.

Party games are great fun at baby showers at there are a number of fun games to try. Why not get everyone to bring a baby photo and you can pin them to a wall. Get everyone to try and guess which picture belongs to which guest. Other popular games are ‘guess the baby food flavor’ and ‘pin the nappy on the baby’ which are pretty self explanatory.

Why not loan out some baby name books from the library and get people to read out the funnies names and their meanings, I guarantee that this will raise a few giggles.

Ask everyone to bring some food or drink with them and keep everything else casual. If it is summer you could even just have a barbecue. The day is a fun way to celebrate your baby coming into the world and therefore you shouldn’t have any stress involved. Give everyone plenty of notice so that there are no excuses for people not being able to come.

    Great Gifts For New Mums

If you have a friend or a relative that is due to give birth then choosing a present to give them and the baby can be a hard decision. The major pieces they will have already more than likely brought themselves and smaller pieces they will more than likely be given loads of anyway. So what can you buy that makes sure your gift is both well received and useful?

Well not thing about mum herself, of course you want to welcome the baby into the world but remember that mum has been through a tough time too.

Buying something just for mum reminders her that she is still ‘her’ and that you still love her. A big hamper full of bath items always goes down well. Some body scrubs, body lotions and essential oil are both nice gifts and practical because it means mum gets to pamper herself.

If you want to go one step further then you could get her a day at a health spa. Maybe get a group of your friends to chip in together. Just remember to post date it because she will probably be reluctant to leave the baby during the first few months.

If you do want to get clothes and items for the baby, remember that they grow so fast and everyone will be buying new born clothes. Why not buy something for a 6 month old baby so that your friend or relative can use it when the baby is slightly older?
